Very Helpful Glass Information

"Good job. You might want to state boldly on your website for all window cleaners to see……that most insurance companies will NOT cover scratched I scratched my windows, How do I fix scratched glass?glass….in spite of the lame “fabrication debris” argument. What’s bad is that many window cleaners THINK they are covered in their minds when in reality they are not. W***** insurance companies do not inform you of the fine print until it is too late. No coverage!  They consider it poor workmanship instead of an “accident”.

Usually there is no way out of it. If you scratched the glass….you or your corporation are liable to pay. The larger the claim, the more this is true. Someone will sue someone. I know of two companies who went out of business because of scratched glass claims caused by their window cleaners here in Tampa Bay. Both incidents were over $1million claims. Both companies just closed their doors and walked away. Please keep us on your mailing list".    Bay Area Services

Do glass cleaners scratch glass?

The correct answer is...Sometimes. To explore this further, we need to look at the underlying causes of scratched glass. Abrasives on construction sites are a number 1 cause. Everything used in the construction process has an abrasive rating, and often ends up on the glass just waiting for someone to try to get it off. One general rule that everyone lives by and would love to change is this, "The last guy there gets blamed". This if often the glass cleaner. Here is the correct strategy for glass cleaners, film installers, and anyone else who works near or on the glass.

1.    Inspect the glass and sashes for scratches first.
2.    Make note of any scratches on then glass or sash before you begin work.
3.    Document the damaged glass by photograph if possible.
4.    Let the Owner or Contractor know about your findings before you begin.

This could take you 5 minutes for each window or door, but the potential savings are well worth your efforts.

Here are a couple of the things that I have found on home and commercial build glass that stacks everything against the glass cleaner.

1.    Stucco splattered onto the glass
2.    Sand and dirt from the pressure wash guys who just cleaned the patio, splattered all over the glass.
3.    Paint overspray freckling the glass.
4.    Manufacturer stickers with difficult to remove adhesives.
5.    Environmental dirt covering the glass. In Florida, we live on a sand bar. Every time the wind blows or the rain falls, we end up with sand and dirt on the glass.
